June IAA Events
I had two really interesting events in June.
On June 12 I presented at the Canadian Institutes Cumulative Effects 2018 conference in Calgary. I had been asked to present an overview on how the new Impact Assessment Act would contribute to advancing cumulative effects and regional assessments. The conference had attendees from across Canada and it was great to hear how various jurisdictions are grappling with this issue. Here’s a link to the conference site: https://www.canadianinstitute.com/cumulative-effects-2018/
I then flew to Toronto for a June 19 ECO Canada event discussing implications of the proposed Impact Assessment Act. I was part of an expert panel, with other panelists being Charles Birchall, from Willms & Shier Environmental Lawyers, and Anjala Puvananathan, the Ontario Region Director of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency. There was a diverse group of attendees, including students, industry and consultants, and some excellent questions and discussion.
